Panoramic View of Carlisle, from Carlisle City Hostel

RooftopRooftopHere is a panoramic view of Carlisle as seen from the Carlisle City Hostel’s rooftop! It was taken a few weeks ago and you can see a lot of the City.

First the Cathedral, which dates back to 1133  and its grounds. Beyond the chimney pots is Dixon’s Chimney which when it was completed in 1836 was 305 ft tall and the tallest cotton mill chimney ever built in Europe. On the far right in the distance you can see the keep of Carlisle Castle, Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in Carlisle Castle for some months in 1568. In the foreground on the right is the back of Tullie House Museum and some of its gardens. Tullie House is a Grade I listed building and amongst other things houses a great exhibition on the Border Reivers.

So as you can see all of Carlisle’s notable attractions are within a stones throw from Carlisle City Hostel, so why not pop up for the weekend, enjoy the sights of the city, enjoy modern, cheap, clean accommodation with us and let us tell you about the funky bars popping up all over the city! We also provide a warm welcome free of charge!
