If you are arriving by car there is on street parking which is free from 7:00pm – 8:30am (Mon-Sat) and 7:00pm – 11:30am Sunday. Outside these times it is a disc parking zone which allows 1 free hour. The nearest and most cost effective car park is ‘Devonshire Walk’ car park located just next to the castle and is £2.90 a day. The ‘Town Dyke Orchard’ or ‘West Walls’ car park is just over the west walls however charges £4.30 per day. Directions

Arriving by Train

  • Head onto the main road and turn left to the City Centre.
  • Go straight up English Street past all the main shops.
  • Bear left at the Central statue onto Castle Street and walk past the cathedral.
  • Turn left onto Paternoster Row.
  • Paternoster Row curves right and becomes Abbey Street.

Arriving by Bus

  • Head west on Lonsdale Street, towards the City Centre
  • Turn left onto Lowther Street.
  • Turn right onto Bank Street.
  • Turn right onto English Street past all the main shops
  • Bear left at the Central statue onto Castle Street and walk past the cathedral.
  • Turn left onto Paternoster Row
  • Paternoster Row curves right and becomes Abbey Street.

Arriving by Car

  • Take Junction 43 off the M6.
  • If coming from the South take the 1st exit/if coming from the North take the 3rd exit on the roundabout A69 Warwick Road and follow the road into Carlisle City Centre for roughly 2 miles.
  • When you reach the traffic lights at Nandos follow the road left
  • Get in the right hand lane and take a right through the old city walls
  • Turn left onto Victoria Viaduct.
  • Take second right onto W Walls.
  • Follow the road all the way to the end and then W Walls bears right and becomes Annetwell Street
  • Turn right onto Castle Street
  • Take the first right onto Paternoster Row
  • Paternoster Row turns right and becomes Abbey Street.
